Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz get US Open mixed doubles wildcard

Williams, a 23-time grand slam singles champion, is returning to Flushing Meadows after her Wimbledon comeback earlier this year was cut short by injury. Alcaraz is returning to competitive action following a four-month injury layoff and will aim for an eighth grand slam title. The star-studded mixed doubles lineup also features partnerships between Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic, as well as last year's finalists Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud. Mixed doubles qualifying for the tournament in New York is scheduled to begin on Monday 24 August.
