Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz will compete in the U.S. Open mixed doubles championship, the United States Tennis Association announced Saturday, Aug. 22.Alcaraz and Williams are part of the last three wild cards for the tournament, which starts Aug. 25, with qualifying beginning the day before. Karolina Muchova, Jakub Mensik, Emma Navarro, and Tommy Paul are the other wild card recipients in the main draw. The teams of Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev and Peyton Stearns and Christian Harrison are wild card entries into the eight-team qualifying draw.Williams, 44, last played at Flushing Meadows in 2022 and has won six U.S. Open singles and one US Open mixed doubles title in 1998 with Max Mirnyi.Alcaraz returns to competitive tennis after a five-month absence because of a wrist injury.
