Conservation biologist Don Croll reached Guadalupe Island off Mexico's Baja California Peninsula in 2001, and found a landscape that had almost no young trees, since feral goats had been eating new growth for generations. Croll and other researchers fenced small areas to see what would happen when the goats were kept away.
