Plates around the world got a little pricier in July. Prices of cereals, vegetable oils and sugar rose during the month, while meat and dairy prices fell, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

A 3.4% month-on-month rise in the FAO's Cereal Price Index drove the trend, fuelled in turn by a 5.8% jump in wheat prices, the agency said.
