An inquest at Cheshire Coroner's Court confirmed SADS as the cause of death, ruling it due to natural causes. SADS affects approximately 500 people in the UK each year, predominantly young males, and is defined as a sudden, unexpected death from cardiac arrest where the cause cannot be found. The condition is often triggered by untreated abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) and can be linked to underlying heart conditions like cardiomyopathy, which may be inherited or influenced by diet, alcohol, and high blood pressure.
