Irdai told to draw up plan to make 3rd-party cover must for fuel purchase

The Supreme Court ordered Irdai to pilot compulsory third-party insurance for fuel purchases. New four-wheeled vehicles will require four years of coverage, and two-wheelers six years. Police will receive devices to verify insurance status in real time. Automatic number plate recognition cameras will integrate with insurance databases. A four-layer structure for private vehicle insurance policies is also planned.
