Death toll from Japan's Kumamoto earthquake rises to 34

The death toll from a strong earthquake that struck southwestern Japan climbed to 13 on Wednesday morning, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said.

The tally has been steadily growing, fanning fears it may continue to rise.

TOKYO - Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said Thursday that the death toll from the recent powerful earthquake in Kumamoto Prefecture has risen to 30.
