DUBAI: Following the departure of Eddie Howe as Newcastle United’s manager, online reports are claiming that he could be replaced at the English Premier League club by Al-Ahli’s German coach Matthias Jaissle. Jaissle has led the Jeddah club to back-to-back AFC Champions League Elite titles in the last two seasons and is a hugely popular figure with Al-Ahli’s supporters. However, he has been unable to reach agreement with the club regarding a contract extension, prompting reports that he is on the brink of leaving and on his way to Newcastle.

The 48-year-old, who led Newcastle to their first trophy in 70 years with the 2025 Carabao Cup, has made the decision himself.
