The United States launched a new wave of large-scale strikes against Iran after several days without direct attacks, marking another sharp escalation in the five-month conflict. The operation came in response to Iran's missile attack on US military installations in Jordan a day earlier, an assault that Washington said had been fully intercepted.

Iran fired a barrage of missiles at U.S. forces in Jordan after a pause in hostilities, though the U.S. claimed to have intercepted them.

The strikes also come after the U.S. and Saudi Arabia launched joint airstrikes against Iran-backed militias in Iraq.

Two people are reported to have been injured by the strikes on Iranian facilities.
