Rajya Sabha passes Bill to make insult to 'Vande Mataram' a criminal offence

The Rajya Sabha has passed a Bill to amend the National Honour Act. This amendment brings Vande Mataram under its legal protection. Acts of disrespect towards the national song will now be criminal offenses. The legislation expands the existing law which protects the national flag and anthem. This move coincides with Vande Mataram's 150th anniversary commemorations.
