NEW DELHI: The Centre has permitted Reserve Bank of India to print 2 billion pieces of polymer notes initially for field trials, govt informed Parliament on Monday.

India's Finance Ministry has approved the RBI's proposal to conduct field trials of polymer banknotes, issuing one billion pieces each in ₹10 and ₹20 denominations.

Government approves trial and regular issuance of ₹10 and ₹20 plastic notes, clarifying they won't replace paper currency.
