Hollywood film director Chuck Russell, who was behind classics like The Mask, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, and The Blob, has "died unexpectedly" at the age of 74

Chuck Russell, who directed the hit Jim Carrey comedy "The Mask," as well as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the action fantasy "The Scorpion King," has died.

Chuck Russell, who directed genre films including 1994's "The Mask," died Wednesday in the San Diego area.

He also wrote ‘Dreamscape’ and helmed ‘Eraser,' ‘Bless This Child’ and ‘The Scorpion King.’
