Maine Democrats who have been scrambling to tap a new nominee for a pivotal U.S. Senate race against Republican Susan Collins are expected to nominate Troy Jackson at a last-minute convention this weekend.

Former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson is Democrats’ likely nominee to take on GOP Sen. Susan Collins in an expensive, consequential race following Graham Platner’s exit.

Maine Democrats opted to select their nominee through a delegate convention rather than a traditional primary.

Jackson easily clinched the nomination during the Bangor convention where hundreds of Democratic delegates from Maine's 16 counties gathered.
