The suspect was initially taken into custody in 2025 as part of the investigation but was released without charge before being formally charged on Wednesday. Karen Carter was well-known in the close-knit community, running two holiday guest houses, and her husband, Alan Carter, described her as an outgoing person. Mr Carter expressed relief at the progress in the case, noting that it also helped clear his name from earlier suspicions regarding his wife's death.
