NHS trust faces manslaughter investigation over Nottingham triple killings

Calocane, a paranoid schizophrenic, was under NHFT's care from 2020 until 2022, having been sectioned four times before being discharged after failing to attend appointments. In June 2023, Calocane fatally stabbed students Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar, both 19, and caretaker Ian Coates, 65, in Nottingham, and subsequently attempted to murder three pedestrians with a stolen van. Northumbria Police, acting on behalf of Nottinghamshire Police, has commenced the investigation, with NHFT confirming its full cooperation. Emma Webber, mother of victim Barnaby, welcomed the investigation as an "unprecedented move" that will send "much-needed shockwaves across our public services" and signifies "the beginning of the reckoning" for accountability.
