The total death toll from the fires includes three Belgian people, an American, a French national, and a Spanish national, in addition to the British victims. Among the British dead was a 93-year-old woman who passed away on Sunday after being hospitalised on Friday with burns covering about 20 per cent of her body. The bodies of four other British victims were discovered inside a burnt-out car, contributing to the confirmed fatalities from the widespread blazes. Two British hikers were found alive but badly burned, suffering 40 per cent burns, after being discovered by Civil Guard officers who returned to an area they had previously searched.
