Mike Johnson said that he knows nothing about the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) shooting in Maine as he’s “been a little busy”. On Monday (13 July), an agent fatally shot Johan Sebastián Guerrero, a Colombian national, during an immigration enforcement operation - the second time in a week that the agency has used deadly force against a migrant. Asked about the fatal shooting of Mr Guerrero, a father to a three-year-old, the House speaker said he would reserve judgement until he learnt more about the case. “I’m not going to comment because I don’t know. I’ve worked about 22 hours the last two days.”

The Maine Attorney General’s Office said it was investigating “a fatal use of deadly force” involving federal law enforcement.

The House speaker claimed he was “a little busy” during the day, which prevented him from learning about the Maine shooting.
