Buffett's decision follows renewed public scrutiny of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates concerning his past association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The Berkshire Hathaway chairman did not explicitly state why the Gates Foundation was omitted from this year's donations, and neither organization immediately commented on the change. Since 2006, Buffett has donated over $47 billion in Berkshire stock to the Gates Foundation, fulfilling an "irrevocable pledge" to give away his fortune during his lifetime. The latest donations include 9 million Class B shares to the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation and 1 million shares each to the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, the Sherwood Foundation, and the NoVo Foundation, with all remaining shares to be donated by December 31, 2034.
