Reported cases of cyclosporiasis, an intestinal illness caused by a parasite, have surpassed 2,600 in Michigan, the state's health department said on Monday.

As state health officials scramble to find the source of the foodborne parasite, the CDC said Friday it’s unclear whether the outbreaks across the country are connected.

Michigan health officials say the state's cyclosporiasis outbreak has grown to more than 1,500 cases.
