The progressive candidate faces a swift collapse in Democratic support following a credible new accusation, adding to months of controversy over a covered Nazi tattoo and rhetoric labeled as antisemitic; under Maine law, Democrats can replace Platner with another candidate if he withdraws by July 13

Platner issued the statement shortly after the new allegation was made public Monday.

Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner denied the allegation, but said he would be considering next steps for his campaign.

Under Maine law, Platner has just one week — until next Monday — to remove his name from the ballot.

Platner is facing increasing pressure to drop out.
