A total of 52,500 Kyiv residents took shelter at metro stations during Russia's combined missile and drone attack on the capital on the night of 1-2 July – the highest number recorded in recent years.

The large-scale attack with ballistic and cruise missiles and drones damaged buildings and civilian infrastructure across the city. Many residents took shelter at metro stations.

Ballistic and cruise missiles and drones were used in what Kyiv's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said was the largest attack on the city since the war began.
