TAICHUNG: Taiwan needs a “hornet’s nest” of drones to help deter conflict and provide security, the top US diplomat to the democratically governed island said on Thursday. The United States, Taiwan’s most important international backer and arms supplier despite the lack of formal diplomatic ties, has strongly backed the government’s military modernization plan and increased defense spending. Taiwan says it needs to bolster its defenses in the face of a stepped-up threat from China, which claims the island as its own territory.

Taiwan’s opposition KMT is proposing NT$240bn for unmanned systems days after stalling the government’s plan, in a fight with real implications for the island’s defence.

Taiwan urged to enhance its drone capabilities amid rising tensions with China. Invasion by December 31, 2027 at 12.5% YES.
