The renaming coincides with the opening of a new West End production of Stoppard's play Arcadia, which transferred from the Old Vic to the West End on 1 July. The theatre, given its title in 1895, was inadvertently named after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who held the Duke of York title until last year amid scrutiny over sexual abuse allegations. Stoppard's children and widow expressed their profound delight and honour at the tribute, highlighting his deep connection to the West End. Sir Tom Stoppard was a highly acclaimed playwright, winning five Tony Awards, three Olivier Awards, and an Academy Award during his five-decade career.
