Zohran Mamdani jumped into a pool whilst wearing a full suit to kick off New York City’s summer pool season. On Saturday (27 June), the Mayor joined locals as he leapt into Thomas Jefferson Pool in East Harlem. The mayoral tradition of diving in a pool to commence the summer season was last honoured by former Mayor Mike Bloomberg in 2013, with Eric Adams and Bill de Blasio opting out. Sharing the footage, Mr Mamdani joked: “When they said, ‘wear a suit,’ I just assumed…” From 27 June to 13 September, more than 50 public pools across all five boroughs will be open to visitors as New Yorkers look to beat the heat.
