The system, designed to streamline updates for subscriptions and digital wallets, can automatically provide new card details to scammers who previously saved a victim's information. Which? found that many banks do not allow customers to opt out of the ABU process, leaving them vulnerable to ongoing fraud after a card cancellation. The watchdog is urging banks to offer customers the option to disable ABUs and to establish a consistent approach to their use in cases of fraud. While some banks state their procedures prevent repeat fraud or block specific merchants, Which? advises vigilance and for customers to ask their bank if the link between their card and fraudulent accounts has been broken.
