More than 70 per cent of Australians have an unfavourable opinion of the world’s most powerful nation – more than the UK, Canada, Japan, Spain and France, according to new research.

Only 21 per cent of Australians have confidence in Donald Trump to do the right thing – the lowest level on record for a US president in the Lowy Institute poll.

More than half of those questioned said relations with Beijing were more important than those with Washington.
