Months of uncertainty and competing claims over the leadership of the Mathulini community have been brought to an end after KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli officially confirmed Prince Mazwendoda Luthuli as Inkosi of the uMnini Traditional Authority. The appointment follows the death of his father, the late Inkosi Phathisizwe Philbert Luthuli, and comes after a period of controversy in which several members of the Luthuli clan challenged his succession. Armed with an official letter of recognition from the provincial government, Inkosi Mazwendoda has pledged to serve the community with integrity, honesty and dedication.
