US president Donald Trump has signed an initial peace agreement with Iran during his visit to the Palace of Versailles in France on Wednesday (17 June) evening. Trump signed the memorandum of understanding during a state dinner hosted by Emmanuel Macron at the royal palace, while flanked by secretary of state Marco Rubio and senior White House aide Stephen Miller. The 14-point plan in the MoU includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz, ending conflicts in Iran and Lebanon and establishing a $300bn reconstruction fund for Tehran. As he departed Versailles after the dinner and began his journey back to Washington, Trump told reporters of the agreement: “It’s signed.”
