The firm said it was ordered to block foreign nationals from accessing its state of the art Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models on national security grounds.

The US government issued a directive ordering Anthropic to suspend access to the models for foreign nationals.

“The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance,” Anthropic said in a statement Friday evening.

Anthropic said it believed the US government had become aware of a potential means of jailbreaking Fable 5.
