Warning new EU entry exit system could cause summer holiday chaos for Britons

Stay up to date with notifications from The IndependentNotifications can be managed in browser preferences.AllNewsSportCultureLifestyleBritons travelling to Europe are being advised to arrive at airports three hours before their flight due to lengthy post-Brexit EU border checks. Yvonne Moynihan, managing director of Wizz Air UK, warned that the new Entry Exit System (EES) is causing significant delays at passport control, leading some passengers to miss flights. The EES requires non-EU travellers to register biometric information when entering the Schengen Area, with over 44.5 million entries and exits registered since its October rollout. Some European countries, including Greece and France, have temporarily suspended or eased EES checks to mitigate disruption, particularly during peak travel periods. Industry bodies are urging the European Commission and member states to fully or partially suspend the EES this summer, though the Commission says the system operates efficiently, taking only 70 seconds per registration.
