Nine cases confirmed in Uganda after virus spread in central Africa

The World Health Organization on Friday announced the first recovery of a confirmed Ebola patient in the outbreak raging in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The outbreak is threatening to overwhelm health authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo, while nine cases have now been confirmed in neighbouring Uganda.

Uganda's health ministry said on Friday that the number of confirmed Ebola cases in the country had risen to nine.

"All contacts of this new confirmed case have been identified and are under close follow up," the ministry said in a statement.

However, no community transmission has been reported in Uganda, the World Health Organization said.
