Vinai Kumar Saxena inaugurated Ladakh’s first Rock Check Dam on the Sindhu River in Leh under the ‘Sindhu Jal Samriddhi Abhiyan’. Built using interlocked riverbed rocks instead of concrete, the semi-permanent structure is designed to improve water storage, strengthen irrigation support for farmers and promote sustainable agriculture in remote areas. The project, completed in seven days at a cost of ₹10 lakh, can reportedly store nearly 40 million litres of water. Authorities have also been directed to construct three more such dams on an experimental basis.
