NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned of the dangers of “extreme heat” gripping the world’s most populous country on Wednesday, with troops battling forest fires and local authorities reporting deaths from heatstroke. International air-quality monitoring platform AQI recorded that the top 45 hottest cities in the world were all in India at midday on Wednesday, all above 43C. “Different parts of India are witnessing soaring temperatures, and the challenges that come with it,” Modi said.

The IMD has issued red and orange alerts as Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab face extreme heatwave conditions with temperatures soaring up to 47°C.
