The Nigerian Army has announced the rescue of a nursing mother, her two-month-old baby and another woman from captivity under suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists during a military operation in Borno State. In a statement, the army said the rescue operation was carried out on May 18, 2026, along the Yuwe axis by troops of under the 222 Battalion of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade as part of ongoing counter-terrorism offensives by Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI targeting terrorist hideouts in the North-East.
