WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump’s administration created a nearly $1.8 billion fund to settle claims that the justice department improperly targeted his political allies in exchange for the president voluntarily dismissing his $10 billion lawsuit against the internal revenue service.

The Trump administration is considering the creation of a $1.776 billion fund to compensate people allied with President Donald Trump for legal fees.

The fund would pay victims of so-called government weaponization.

The fund was created as part of a settlement resolving Donald Trump’s lawsuit against the IRS over the leak of his confidential tax records.
