Darksword, found by researchers from Lookout, iVerify, and Google, exploits software bugs and has been planted on dozens of websites, marking the second iPhone spyware discovery this month after "Coruna". The malware targets iPhones running iOS versions 18.4 to 18.6.2, with an estimated 220 to 270 million devices potentially vulnerable due to users not installing updates. Google observed Darksword being used by commercial vendors and suspected state-linked hackers in campaigns against targets in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Malaysia, and Ukraine, with some linked to Turkish firm PARS Defense. Apple stated that the exploits target "out-of-date software" and that the underlying vulnerabilities have been addressed in recent updates, urging users to keep their devices' operating systems current for security.
