Long queues have formed around the University of Kent as students waited to receive antibiotics following an outbreak of meningitis, which has resulted in the death of a student and a year 13 pupil. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said 11 other people had fallen ill with signs of symptoms of meningitis and septicaemia. Hundreds of individuals, many wearing face masks and standing apart, lined up on Monday (16 March) to receive medication. “We have contacted all our students and staff to ensure they have all the latest advice and support they need,” the university said, adding that it has cancelled all in-person assessments and exams taking place this week.
