Newly-elected Gorton and Denton MP Hannah Spencer apologised to her customers in her victory speech following the Green Party's historic win in Thursday's (27 February) by-election. The plumber-turned-parliamentarian, 34, became the party's youngest MP after securing 14,980 votes and overturning Labour's majority. Ms Spencer lives in Trafford and in her work as a plumber retrofitted houses to make them more energy efficient. In a message to her clients, she said: “Now, to my customers, I’m sorry, but I think I might have to cancel the work that you have booked in, because I’m heading to Parliament. “And when I get there, I will make space for everyone doing jobs like mine. “We will finally get a seat at the table.”

Hannah Spencer elected as party’s first MP in northern England, as Labour sees a 25.3% drop in vote compared to 2024

She describes herself as a ‘marathon runner and housemate to four rescued greyhounds’
