Seven states continue to tinker with congressional maps for partisan advantage in the 2026 elections after the Supreme Court upheld California's plan.

The state approved the map last year aiming to cancel gains made by Republicans through redrawn voting districts in Texas.

In a move that will make it harder for the GOP to keep control of Congress, the Supreme Court said the state can use a congressional map that favors Democrats.

The high court previously ruled adopting new maps for political advantage cannot be a basis for a federal lawsuit.
