Erik and Lyle Menendez will face a California parole board this week who may free them from prison after more than 30 years for killing their parents.

The younger of the Menendez brothers, who killed their parents in their Beverly Hills mansion, can try again for parole in three years.

The possibility of release became a reality when he and his brother were resentenced for the 1989 murders of their parents back in May.

Erik Menendez was newly eligible for parole after a long legal battle that led to resentencing. His brother will also face the parole board.

Erik Menendez has been denied parole, nearly 40 years after he and his brother killed their parents inside their Beverly Hills mansion.

The decision comes 36 years and one day after Erik and his brother Lyle shot and killed their parents in the family's Beverly Hills mansion

Mehr als 35 Jahre nach der Ermordung ihrer Eltern hoffen die Menendez-Brüder Lyle und Erik auf Haftentlassung. Zumindest für einen hat sich diese Hoffnung vorerst zerschlagen.

Menendez, along with his brother Lyle, has served 35 years of a life prison term for fatally shooting their parents.

It is the older Menendez's turn to make his request for freedom after the brothers spent decades in prison for killing their parents in 1989.

A phone, candles and behaviour by the long-term US inmate factored into the refusal of his release.

One day after brother Erik's failed bid for parole, Lyle Menendez will go before the parole commissioners to attempt to get a successful parole hearing.

Talia Menendez lashed out at the parole board, prison officials, and the media - even vowing to expose alleged abuses inside the correctional system.

Mr. Menendez will remain in prison with his brother, Erik, who received the same decision on Thursday.
