T
he comedy writer Andy Hamilton, creator of Drop the Dead Donkey and Outnumbered, had generally kept his acting to the airwaves, perhaps thinking he has a face for Radio 4, but decided to seek more TV work after falling victim to an impostor.
Hamilton told Rob Brydon’s podcast that someone pretended to be him in order to seduce women then fleece them for money.
This came to light when a woman went to Hamilton’s agent, who asked for a description. It turned out the fake Hamilton had put in a lot of effort. “He’d even given her material he’d written that she showed to my agent,” he says. Hamilton was not comforted when his agent reported that the conman’s writing was quite impressive.
