It could be the final step to show that Labour has finally banished the hard-Left, Corbyn era – wearing a 'posh' morning coat to the Coronation.
But last night it was still unclear whether Sir Keir Starmer would take the plunge – or stick to his trusty 'Sunday best' lounge suit.
The Mail on Sunday can reveal that that is the tricky choice posed for the Labour leader by the official 'guidance on dress'. 'Gentlemen' guests are given the simple choice of 'Morning Coat', 'Lounge Suit' or 'Uniform'.
There is also the option of 'Celebratory National Dress' but, apart from Scottish kilts, that is thought to apply more to distinguished foreign royals or heads of state. Ladies are given the vaguer option of 'Day Dress' though with 'hats/fascinators optional'.
Rishi Sunak is set to wear a morning coat. So too is former Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Sources close to Sir Keir suggested he had yet to decide to what to wear, saying: 'I don't think he's thought that far ahead.'
