Anthony Elanga’s injury “doesn’t look that good” and Newcastle United’s injury problems are mounting following a humbling 4-1 defeat at Leeds United. The winger missed the match due to an unspecified problem, with head coach Matthias Jaissle confirming that Elanga will undergo another MRI to discover the extent of his problem. Matias Fernandez-Pardo was handed his full debut at Elland Road in Elanga’s absence.“With Anthony Elanga, obviously, he struggles with an injury,” Jaissle said in his post-match press conference. “We need to further investigate how serious it is, but at the moment, it doesn’t look that good.”Nico Gonzalez was forced off in the 19th minute of the defeat with suspected concussion, too, and the midfielder must be a doubt for Saturday’s home match against in-form Hull City as a result.

“With Nico, as a manager, the gaffer, and also we as a club, we have also the responsibility,” Jaissle said. “If he had that knockout feeling, as you all saw, we are also responsible enough to take him then off the pitch. Even though he looked fine then, there are also some rules, especially for that occasion.“Then we — independent of how important he is and how important it is to win a match — know there are human beings as well, and we take that seriously. So therefore, we took the decision to take him off the pitch.”Gonzalez was taken off the pitch following a suspected head injury (Stu Forster/Getty Images)Dan Burn, Will Osula and Joelinton are all sidelined, too, though Jaissle has refused to confirm timelines for their potential return.None of that trio appear likely to be back for Hull, while Jacob Ramsey must also be a doubt after feeling his thigh during the warm-up at Elland Road, which is why he remained an unused substitute.“It’s pretty simple to explain as he felt his thigh in the warm up, he was not able to play,” Jaissle said. “That was the next challenge. A little bit of the story (with everything), I would say many things came together (against us).”Asked if he expected any of the other injured players to return this weekend, Jaissle said: “It doesn’t look good at the moment.”
