OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Baltimore Ravens coach Jesse Minter said there’s “potential” to bring in a free-agent wide receiver as the team continues to evaluate its options with two of its top pass catchers ailing.Both Zay Flowers (hamstring) and rookie Ja’Kobi Lane (wrist) were hurt in the first half of the Ravens’ 41-23 victory over the Indianapolis Colts Sunday. They did not return for the second half.Minter described Flowers as “day to day,” but he was noncommittal about whether the team’s No. 1 receiver would be ready for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints. Flowers has been dealing with a sore hamstring since joint practices in Minnesota. He missed two weeks of practice but returned to a full participant last week.Minter acknowledged that Lane could be out a “little bit longer” with what NFL Network reported was a fractured wrist.“Feel pretty good about where that’s at,” Minter said when asked about Flowers’ status Monday. “We’ll see how the week goes, though. Ja’Kobi maybe a little bit longer. We’re getting some more things looked at right now and talking to different people. That’s kind of where those two guys are at.”Top Plays from Ravens @ ColtsLane is considered a candidate for injured reserve, which would sideline him for at least four weeks. Minter said Lane hurt his wrist earlier in the game Sunday, but he didn’t feel the discomfort immediately. When he did, he reported it to the team’s medical staff and was shut down for the rest of the game.Baltimore finished its Week 1 win with just three healthy receivers: Rashod Bateman, veteran practice squad call-up Chris Moore and return specialist LaJohntay Wester. Rookie fourth-round pick Elijah Sarratt and Devontez Walker were both inactive for the game. Sarratt was a healthy scratch, while Walker was questionable with a groin injury. The team held him out.That could change this week, when both will likely be needed. Even if the Ravens added someone, there’s no guarantee he would be ready to play by Sunday.“I think there’s potential for (an outside acquisition), but again, Tez Walker and Sarratt, I have a lot of confidence in those guys,” Minter said. “Those guys have a ton of reps within our offense. Tex was dealing with something minor this past week, and we sort of pushed him (back). Those two guys, I think, have a real opportunity to get themselves into the boat, get themselves in rhythm. Then, we’ll look at all options to figure out what’s best for the 70 guys we have available (with) the 53 and the practice squad.”There’s not a ton of quality wide receivers available on the free-agent market. The list includes veterans Darius Slayton, Brandin Cooks, Gabe Davis, Sterling Shepard and Tyler Lockett. The Ravens worked out Shepard when they opted to sign Moore before training camp.Whether they make any signings or not, Bateman would likely slide into the No. 1 receiver role if Flowers is sidelined. The highly scrutinized 2021 first-round pick played 53 of the team’s 68 offensive snaps against the Colts. His downfield blocking keyed some big plays for the Ravens, but he finished without a catch and was targeted by Lamar Jackson just once. Bateman did have a reception nullified by a penalty.“I think there were a few (opportunities) there,” Minter said. “I give ‘Bate’ a lot of credit because he played the game the right way. He ran good routes. He was open at times. Maybe the play didn’t go to him, whatever. But he’s blocking downfield, he’s being unselfish.“I think the offense will show over time that it could be anybody’s big day on any day. Excited by how he played, and I think there’s big days ahead for Bate.”
