The first week of the NFL regular season is (almost) over and we already saw some pretty drastic swings in the playoff race, none bigger than the Arizona Cardinals upsetting the Los Angeles Chargers. But that wasn’t all.The New England Patriots, one of my futures bets from last week’s debut for this column, dropped a winnable game against the Seattle Seahawks while also losing wide receiver A.J. Brown to a high ankle sprain that will sideline him for at least four games — all of which puts our futures portfolio a little underwater after just one week.The biggest move, though, is the Los Angeles Rams. They lost to the San Francisco 49ers in Australia, then just days later, learned that Myles Garrett needs surgery on his knee. And just like that, they aren’t Super Bowl favorites anymore. Well, at least according to The Athletic’s NFL Playoff Simulator — those rights now belong to the Baltimore Ravens at 17 percent, ahead of the Rams at 14 percent. (Los Angeles is still the betting favorite with odds in the +500 to +650 range, depending on the sportsbook.) The Rams still edge out the 49ers as the NFC West and NFC favorite.It was true that the Rams were overrated in the preseason.
