U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that Ukraine and Russia have agreed to stop striking each other’s energy infrastructure, although neither side has confirmed that such an agreement exists.
“Ukraine has agreed not to hit Russian Energy Targets. Russia has agreed to do, likewise!” Trump wrote on Truth Social on September 14.
Trump linked the alleged agreement to rising global diesel prices, saying “the World's Diesel prise rise is mostly caused by the Russia/Ukraine war, not Iran.”
The claim came without details about when or how the agreement was reached. Neither Kyiv nor Moscow initially confirmed that a deal had been concluded.
About an hour after Trump’s post, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was “not sure” that Russia was willing to honor such an arrangement. At the same time, he indicated that Ukraine would be prepared to reciprocate if Russia genuinely stopped attacking Ukrainian energy and critical infrastructure.
