US President Donald Trump said Monday, Sept. 14, that Ukraine and Russia agreed to halt strikes on each other’s energy infrastructure. “Ukraine has agreed not to hit Russian Energy targets. In a statement issued an hour after Trump’s post, President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed Kyiv is ready to halt its strikes on Russian infrastructure, but only if Ukraine’s partners can ensure Moscow genuinely stops attacks on Ukrainian critical infrastructure. “Every day, Ukrainian energy facilities, port infrastructure, logistics, and even warehouses storing food and pharmaceuticals are targeted,” Zelensky said, adding that “Ukraine is not convinced that Russia is willing to abide by any agreement.” Zelensky said that any agreement must be reliable, long-term and produce a tangible benefit for civilians, warning against a temporary deal that could collapse after Russia’s State Duma elections on Sept. 18-20. He also pointed to short-term relief from pressure on Russia’s gasoline and diesel supplies.
