President Trump declared on Truth Social that the United States doesn’t need new AI regulations because it already has something better: him. In a post dated September 14, 2026, Trump argued that a “STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT” is the only regulatory framework artificial intelligence requires, dismissing growing calls from tech leaders to pump the brakes on development.
The battle lines over AI safety
Trump’s post was a direct response to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who had recently published an essay calling for a measured slowdown in AI development to give safety research time to catch up. That position found support from some notable names, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Elon Musk, both of whom have called for global coordination on AI safety protocols.
Trump wasn’t buying it. He labeled the push for caution a “SICK conspiracy” and framed it as something that could hand a strategic advantage to China. The closing argument: “WHOEVER WINS AI, WINS!”
A former Anthropic researcher recently departed the company and publicly raised alarms about the potential dangers of self-improving AI technologies. That exit amplified public anxiety about whether the industry is moving too fast, adding fuel to calls for regulatory guardrails.
