Tesla has set October 1, 2026, as the date it will finally show the world what its next-generation Roadster actually looks like. The reveal event is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Eastern in Waco, Texas, and will feature design updates alongside what the company is billing as a live demonstration of the vehicle’s capabilities, including its headline-grabbing SpaceX cold-gas thruster package.
For context on how long this car has been coming: the original Roadster prototype debuted on November 16, 2017, with production targeted for 2020. That deadline came and went, followed by at least seven more missed timelines. The October 1 event marks Tesla’s first firm, publicly committed date since the whole saga began.
What Tesla is actually promising
The performance figures Tesla has attached to the Roadster read less like an automobile spec sheet and more like a dare. The company claims a 0-to-60 mph time of 1.9 seconds in standard trim, dropping to under one second with the optional SpaceX thruster package installed.
Top speed is listed at over 250 mph, and maximum driving range is claimed at up to 620 miles on a single charge.
