Countries in the multilateral platform BRICS have backed the promotion of sustainable aviation fuels alongside deeper cooperation in urban mobility, logistics and transport infrastructure.On Saturday (September 12), the countries in the multilateral forum unanimously adopted the BRICS New Delhi Declaration 2026.The declaration welcomed a BRICS Forum on SAF, a framework for exchanging knowledge on transport decarbonisation, and the establishment of a BRICS Urban Mobility Hub and a logistics supply-chain cooperation framework.Besides, the declaration encouraged discussion on a proposal for a BRICS Railway Research Network.According to the declaration, the member countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in transport policy, investment, technology and capacity building to develop sustainable and resilient infrastructure.The countries in the multilateral forum recognised the critical role of transport infrastructure in economic growth, connectivity and environmental sustainability.Accordingly, the declaration supported the promotion of SAF and low-carbon aviation fuels as a means of reducing carbon emissions in international aviation.The declaration further welcomed the BRICS framework of cooperation for exchange of knowledge on transport decarbonisation.Furthermore, it called for leveraging the renewable energy potential of member countries.The declaration acknowledged the importance of embedding circular economy principles into the development and maintenance of transport infrastructure across the grouping.Meanwhile, the countries called for further transport dialogue, including in civil aviation, to meet stakeholder requirements and enhance their transport potential.Such cooperation, the declaration said, would respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all member states.On urban transport, the declaration stated that the BRICS Urban Mobility Hub is intended to facilitate knowledge exchange and cooperation on accessible, affordable, inclusive and smart transport solutions.Regarding logistics, the declaration welcomed the establishment of the BRICS logistics supply-chain cooperation framework.Published on September 12, 2026
